All I can say is grats on the new computer. It sounded very nice. The rest of the techinical jargon is hurting my head ;-)

And ZooZoo, please put the GLOW back in the game! After getting that new video card and running everything back in high mode, even farming in marduka became more fun.

I'll be using Vista unless it gives me a very good reason not to use it that will make enough headaches to justify:

Reformatting my disc and resinstalling all of my system stuff.
Reinstalling Pro Tools and setting it up to work with XP.

So far, Vista has been working great. I've not had any problems whatsoever.

XP is no shining star of a OS either.

to be honest, once you switch off UAC and get used to vista is pretty good

Also, I didn't care for the XP look at all, and I really am digging the black borders because they pretty much fade into my LCD frame, which puts a nice, clean look to the window. Also, I really like the interface overall, just smooth (though some of that may be my gfx card) and pretty clean without too much clutter.

The file system interface is kinda annoying compared to classic XP, so I may change that. Vista normal setup just seems like its cluttered to get around the file folders. I REALLY dig the Mac file system and the interface they use cuz it's so simple to navigate thru your system and the visual design is clean and insanely simple visually.

u can probably build ur own mac but i don't think it's worth the headache

UAC = User Access Control, you know where it asks you to put ur password in if the slightest thing changes.

its all about windows 7 tbh i downloaded the beta from microsoft website runs smoother than vista and is less demanding. only issue is hadly anything runs on it atm otherwise id switch to it now

thats why its in beta
anyway the RC is coming out in about a week. also from what i hear vista users will get a very cheap upgrade to windows 7

i get windows 7, vista, xp and a legal copy of ms office ultimate for free with my course so its kind of nice.

yeah it is but u can only get one key for each product for free, my xp and vista have been used. and i will be upgrading to 7 when that gets released on there

yeah u can buy reducded priced software after the free ones but not sure how much they are

i can get you legal keys for visual studio 2008 pro and 2005 pro, windows server 2008, windows server 2003, sql server u name it. search for dreamspark, tot u might be eligible for this too.

Yeah, whenever Windows 7 (aka Vista take 2) comes out and Pro Tools supports it, I will switch over.

I think at some point new Vista purchases will have a credit for a free upgrade to Windows 7, but I'm not sure if it's like that yet or if it's in the near future.

and switch off windows search in services , makes vista a hell alot faster
