| is it for the guild to decide the composition of Destiny?
and/or
is it to prevent certain types of malicious or less preferable people from joining?
and/or
is it to make Destiny look hard to get into?
or is it a mix or some other reason?
i'm asking for a certain curiosity of mine - and to better understand my guild.

| Well it is pretty simple: Destiny is a big guild and we don't have unlimited spots. Also we are a pretty popular guild. So we *can* be picky about who we want or don't want...
Jokes aside: ofc we will never get to a point where everyone is friends with every other guildmember, but we have a guild that has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and I wouldn't ruin that by just accepting anyone 90+ (or 100+ or 110+ or 150+) no matter how much of a douche he is.
So we have applications. And seriously: if you just look through some of the old application threads, you will see why: what if all those that were voted "no" in the end would have joined? Some of them seemed pretty incapable of keeping their manners when they were not wanted in guild... now do you rly think they would have become polite & nice guild members? ;-)
Ofc this also might lead to some ppl being disproved even though they are rly nice, but some members have issues with them - even that's okay. After all, it makes sure we get quality (in personality, not necessarily in game playing skills) over quantity (we have enough of that anyway).
So it is pretty much reasons 1+2 I guess.

| It's mainly just to make sure that the people who are in the guild are good, nice people who aren't prone to being hissy fits, and who won't cause half the guild to explode with drama. In the past we used to let in people who were friends of guildies without an application, but we started up the "everybody must apply" thing around when the guild was like 19x/200 and we couldn't fit any more people in, and we've pretty much stuck to that since. It's not about being exclusive or hard to get into for sure, though. Destiny has never been about being some giant server-dominating superpower guild that strikes fear into the rest of the server (although sometimes it might look that way ). Destiny is more like a family that sticks together, and we are strong because of that, not the other way around. ^^ You can see that reflected in the people who we actually do let in~ we have several people with R3 mains, and we don't take jerks no matter how high their levels are. Ryana's right in that we don't recruit people just for their playing skills. Hell, if that was the case, there is no way I would have ever been let into Destiny~ my PVP skills are probably the worst on the server. | |

that probability would seem rather low, as your credibility on the estimation is barely questionable; i havent even seen MY pvp skills D: the # and kinds of skills offered to evokers really limits the number of applicable pvp and siege strategies that i have composed, compared to the other classes i've played =[ (locks, knights, and sins are most versatile and have the greatest number of harmonious combos, from what i've observed)

It's nice to see someone giving sins credit for once~ I don't know why everybody else seems to think sins suck, a sin in the hands of a good player is downright scary in PVP. Case in point right in our guild~ *points at Rich*

Case in point right in our guild~ *points at Rich* well its the exclusive skills such as cloak and sudden rush that boost variables and different combos for a sin =P (not to mention the stuns) sb and bs get their range of combos from their choice of main/secondary pets, and ranged/melee attacks. champs have a very wide range of applications in both ranged and melee, accompanied by spam skills (which we (should) know r are more deadly with 2h weaps than 1h/dualwielded weaps) =x
